Christmas is the Biggest Day of the Year for Wedding Proposals

Love-birds across the country will be hoping for a proposal this Christmas Day, which tops the list as the ultimate occasion to pop the question according to a poll.
Almost half (46 per cent) of those who responded favoured the festive season for getting engaged, choosing it over summer holidays or birthdays.
However, those getting down on one knee had better go in prepared as it emerged that an engagement ring alone won’t suffice as a Christmas present. Three quarters of those surveyed (75 per cent) admitted they would still expect an additional gift from their partner, on top of the customary ‘sparkler’.
The results came in a survey* commissioned by landowner and luxury wedding venue provider Buccleuch, exploring the latest in marriage and proposal trends.
Engagement photography was highlighted as a growing craze growing with 58 per cent saying they would consider a professional photo shoot to celebrate their commitment.
When it came to popping the question, good old-fashioned romance came out on top with a private proposal being preferred to a public and extravagant one. And more than half (55 per cent) said love was more important than location, timing and diamond-size when considering betrothal.
Almost half of the respondents also cited a fairy-tale wedding at a stately home or castle as their dream location for nuptials, and named winter as the most romantic season to get hitched.
