Back with a Bang

A spectacular retelling of The Gunpowder Plot is returning to the home of Bonfire Night, Boughton House.

The show of performance, projection and fireworks will light up the Northamptonshire Estate in celebration of Boughton’s role in the advent of the annual fireworks tradition.

Edward, First Lord Montagu, of Boughton House, a former MP for Northamptonshire, established the celebration by personally sponsoring The Observance of 5^th November Act 1605, which called for an annual thanksgiving for the failure of the plot to assassinate King James I of England. This set in motion a tradition which has spanned centuries and the globe.

Charles Lister, property manager at Boughton House, said: “Thousands joined us last year as we breathed new life into the story behind this enduring celebration. After four centuries, Boughton claimed its title as the home of Bonfire Night and we look forward to retelling our unique story for visitors again this year.”

Cllr Robin Brown, Northamptonshire County Council cabinet member for public health and wellbeing, added: “For a Bonfire Night with a difference, this incredible event is not to be missed. People will be able to find out about Northamptonshire’s historic connections to the Gunpowder Plot before enjoying a spectacular firework display over the ‘hidden home’ of Bonfire Night, Boughton House.”

Gates open at 6.30pm with pre-event activity including entertainment from fire act, Fairly Famous Family; atmospheric chamber choir performances by the Northampton Philharmonic Choir and a visual arts installation by local primary school children.

Tickets have gone on sale for the hotly anticipated celebrations on November 4th and 5^th, which are brought to you by Boughton House, METRO-BOULOT-DODO and Northamptonshire County Council.

Purchase your tickets from www.liveboxoffice.co.uk. Tickets cost £10, or £6.50 for teens, and a ten per cent discount will be applied for group bookings of four of more. This is an outdoor, standing-only event and is suitable for children aged six and over.
