Summer season at Boughton House

Northamptonshire’s Boughton House is gearing up for a grand public opening in August.
The Estate, home to the Duke of Buccleuch, will celebrate a summer of culture with tours of the house and gardens, a special exhibition and film screenings in the beautiful grounds under the stars.
Known as the ‘English Versailles’, Boughton will mark its first seasonal opening since the reinstatement of its celebrated 17th century lake – the Grand Etang – complete with a spectacular fountain, reaching over 75 feet.
In addition to daily guided tours of the house and gardens, the Estate will host a significant exhibition of Huguenot artwork and craftsmanship, marking the 300th anniversary of the death of the group’s persecutor, Louis XIV of France.
Later in the month, Boughton’s spectacular grounds will be transformed into an open-air cinema with a screening of the Oscar-winning ‘The Theory of Everything’ and a sold out showing of 80s favourite ‘Dirty Dancing’. Further screenings of hit movies ‘Top Gun’ and ‘The Imitation Game’ will take place in September.
Charles Lister, property manager at Boughton House, said: “We have a very special summer programme in store for visitors this year. As well as enjoying the impressive array of paintings and objets d’art on permanent display at Boughton, including works of Van Dyck and Gainsborough, there will also be an opportunity to view treasures from the renowned Buccleuch Art collection at our special Huguenots exhibition. And with another open air cinema series planned in the Gardens, there’s sure to be something for everyone.”
Boughton House opens to the public daily throughout August, with the gardens opening from 12pm-5pm and the House opening from 1pm-5pm (last tour 3.30pm). House and/or gardens ticket holders will gain free entry into the special exhibition in August, which will also be open to arranged group visits throughout July and September, by appointment. The Gift Shop and Café will also be open throughout the summer season from 12pm-5pm daily, where visitors can treat themselves to a memento of their visit and a light lunch in the charming surroundings of an 18th century Stable Bock.
