National Gardens Scheme

10th October, 2015

Leaf peepers and landscape lovers alike can experience the tranquil gardens of Boughton House and help raise funds for charity this month.

Northamptonshire’s answer to the Palace of Versailles will be opening its celebrated gardens for one day only this autumn in partnership with the National Gardens Scheme (NGS).

See the Grade 1 Designed Landscape in its full autumnal glory on Sunday 25 October and enjoy the romance of the Walled Garden and Lily Pond.

Charles Lister, property manager at Boughton House, said: “The National Gardens Scheme donates to so many wonderful charities and we at Boughton House are thrilled to be able to show our support by opening our beautiful gardens to visitors.”

“Witness nature transforming the gardens as you meander through, and don’t forget to admire the newest addition – the Grand Etang lake – which opened earlier this year, marking a major milestone in the restoration of Boughton’s historic landscape.”

Boughton’s gardens will be open in conjunction with the National Gardens Scheme from 11am-3pm on October 25. Tickets are priced at £6 for adults, £3 for children and £14 for a family of four (two adults and two children). The NGS will donate its proceeds from ticket sales to charitable causes, including Macmillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie.

The Gift shop and café, located in an 18th Century Stable Block, will be open on the day between 11am-3pm. Visitors can pick up some early Christmas gifts before enjoying a hot or cold lunch in the café.

The National Gardens Scheme has raised more than £45million for good causes since its instigation in 1927. All its nominated beneficiaries are nursing and caring charities.

Boughton will also be hosting a Christmas Event from 5-20 December from 10am-5pm, where prime Nordmann fir and select Blue Spruce British-grown Christmas trees will be on sale, along with locally crafted festive wreaths and firewood for the Christmas hearth.

During the festivities, the Gift shop will be filled with original gift ideas for all members of the family and a range of luxury and locally sourced food and drink.
