Special opening rounds off rousing al fresco season

Following a successful al fresco summer series, Boughton House’s celebrated Gardens will open to the public just one more time this autumn.

The Northamptonshire home of the Duke of Buccleuch enjoyed a thrilling summer programme featuring everything from open air theatre to a garden literary festival, and now will continue its celebration of the great outdoors on Sunday 22 October in conjunction with the charitable National Gardens Scheme.

The lovely gardens at the “English Versailles” will open between 11am – 3pm, with a portion of the entrance fees donated to the scheme, which has raised more than £50 million for nursing and caring charities since it was established in 1927.

Charles Lister, Property Manager at Boughton House, said: “Boughton provides an idyllic setting for outdoor events and this year our focus has been firmly on the great outdoors.

‘We had a bumper summer season, featuring everything from a garden literary festival and exhibition to open air theatre and cinema events.

“We’re delighted to be rounding off our celebration of the great outdoors by supporting a special cause like the National Gardens Scheme in October.

“It’s also an opportunity for anyone who missed out on our summer series to get on down to the Boughton this autumn.”

The National Gardens Scheme has been inviting garden owners to open their gardens to the public for good causes since 1927, with £50 million being donated to charities across the UK to date.

Visitors to Boughton House can sample the delights of the Walled Garden, with its herbaceous border and Sensory Garden, and take in the sights of the Rose Garden and Lily Pond during their visit.

Admissions to the National Gardens Scheme between 11am-3pm are set at £6 per adult, £3 per child and £14 for a family of four.
