Easter at Boughton House

14th March, 2018

Visitors to Northamptonshire’s Boughton House this Easter weekend can linger for longer over the treasures of The Buccleuch Art Collection.

The home of the Duke of Buccleuch is gearing up for a very special spring opening when visitors can build their own bespoke journey through the House, known as the “English Versailles”.

From 31st March – 2nd April, there’s a chance to enjoy a huge array of celebrated art, including works by masters such as El Greco, Van Dyck, Batoni and Gainsborough, on a self-guided tour of the property’s ground floor.  You can also take in the sights of royal French porcelain, stunning furniture created by the master cabinetmaker André-Charles Boulle and walls adorned with 17th century English tapestries created by the Mortlake tapestry works.

After entering the Great Hall you can enjoy the sights of the Little Hall, Drawing Room, Morning Room, Rainbow Room, South Passage, Audit Room and Egyptian Hall at your leisure. There is also an opportunity to visit the celebrated Armoury and haunting Unfinished Wing.

Helpful guides will be positioned around the historic House to answer questions, and the in-depth Boughton House guidebook will be on sale on the day.

Visitors can also explore the wider Designed Landscape and the formal Gardens, including two new additions. New for 2018, The Wedding Garden features trees used at a recent family wedding, while the Alpine Garden is a respectful nod to alpine specialist Valerie Finnis, a former resident at Boughton.

Charles Lister, Property Manager at Boughton House, said: “With such a wealth of history here at Boughton, there are so many stories to discover.

“The opportunity arose to create a new experience as essential repairs will mean altering our regular tours offering this Easter. We’re really embracing this rare opportunity and we think visitors will enjoy the freedom to take in the House at their own pace during opening hours.”

Excellent food is available in the 18th century stable block and the gift shop offers a wide variety of crafts, food, jewellery, books and more.

Access to the State Rooms and upper floors will be affected during the Easter opening. To find out more, contact Boughton House on 01536 515 731 or email info@boughtonhouse.co.uk.

Entry to the House and Gardens costs £10 per adult, £8 for children and £30 for a family of four. Gardens only entry is £5 for adults, £3 for children and £14 for a family of four. Purchase at the gift shop on arrival or pre-book by calling ahead.
