Back with a bang! The Gunpowder Plot as you’ve never seen it before

An explosive new re-telling of the story of The Gunpowder Plot will have its world premiere at Boughton House this November.
Back with a bang after a one year hiatus, the completely reimagined show from Leicester theatre company MBD will feature an all-new score, script, choreography and animation when it’s staged in the grounds of the stately home on Saturday 3rd and Monday 5th November.
A true feast for the senses, it will dive into the narrative after the failure of the infamous plot against the monarch, posing the question “How did we become so divided?”
Esther Simpson, artistic director at MBD, said: “Our new show will really take things up another gear, kicking off at the most dramatic moment in the narrative – the execution of Guy Fawkes.
“And the momentum won’t let up as we go on to explore the climate surrounding The Plot through a spectacle of projection, performance and pyrotechnics, against the stunning and intimate backdrop of the courtyard at Boughton House.
“It’s so much more than just a fireworks display but it is without a doubt an unforgettable way to spend your Bonfire Night.”
Host venue Boughton House played a significant role in the creation of the Bonfire Night tradition after Edward, First Lord Montagu of Boughton House sponsored what’s known as the The Observance of 5th November Act 1605 calling for an annual act of thanksgiving for the failure of The Plot.

“It’s a special experience to see the story dramatised here where it all began at the home of Bonfire Night, and we expect tickets to be snapped up quickly.”

Boughton House’s summer opening season draws to a close at the end of August, but groups are still welcome to visit by prior appointment throughout the year.
