Boughton House Open for Easter

24th March, 2017

Boughton House – the iconic Northamptonshire home of the Duke of Buccleuch – is set for its first public opening of the year over Easter weekend.

The House and Gardens at the stately home will open from 15-17 April, enabling visitors to enjoy the highlights of the Estate known as the English Versailles.

Charles Lister, Property Manager at Boughton House, said: “We’re looking forward to opening Boughton’s grand doors this April. From our Great Hall Tour to our State Rooms Tour and Books, Beds and Beyond Tour, there is something for everyone inside the main House.

“We’ve also just completed the re-planting of our historic Broad Walk Lime Tree Avenue, which lies to the West of the property. Originally created in 1705, its reinstatement marks another step towards the complete restoration of the 18th century Gardens at the Estate.

“And don’t worry if you can’t fit it all in during one visit, this year there’s an extra special incentive, as a visit to the Estate over Easter grants free access to the Gardens in full summer bloom this August.”

Following two centuries of peaceful slumber before its rebirth in the 20th century, Boughton now stands as one of the best preserved examples of 17th and 18th century aesthetics, and is home to many key pieces from the world-renowned Buccleuch Art Collection.

Visitors to this extraordinary home can enjoy the works of Masters such as Van Dyck, Gainsborough and El Greco, Sèvres porcelain once owned by French royalty, one the finest collections of weapons in the country and stunning historic tapestries.

As well as guided tours of the main House and self-guided tours of the formal Gardens over Easter Weekend, visitors can view the Estate’s recently-restored historic Lime Tree Avenue.

Spring visitors will also gain free access to the Gardens throughout the Estate’s public opening in August as part of the new pay once scheme.

A House tour and access to the Gardens and Armoury starts from £10 per adult, £8 per child and £30 for families (two adults and two children). Accompanied Children under five go free.
