Special May opening at Boughton House

14th May, 2018

Northamptonshire’s Boughton House will stage a rare public opening later this month, where visitors can enjoy the highlights of the renowned Buccleuch Art Collection at their own pace.

Following the success of the Estate’s Easter opening, visitors are being invited to once again build their own bespoke journeys through the House known as the English Versailles from 26th May – 28th May.

The impressive ground floor at the home of the Duke of Buccleuch will open for self-guided tours, taking in the sights of the Entrance Hall, Little Hall, Drawing Room, Morning Room, Rainbow Room, South Passage, Audit Room, Egyptian Hall and Low Pavillion.

Highlights of the collection on display will include works by masters El Greco, Van Dyck, Batoni and Gainsborough, as well as royal French porcelain, furniture created by the master cabinetmaker André-Charles Boulle and 17th century English tapestries created by the Mortlake tapestry works.

There will also be an opportunity to visit the celebrated Armoury, intriguing Unfinished Wing and Gardens, with two new additions for 2018 – the Wedding Garden and the Alpine Garden.

Helpful guides will be positioned around the historic House to answer questions, and the in-depth Boughton House guidebook will be on sale on the day.

Charles Lister, Property Manager at Boughton House, said: “The opportunity arose to create a new experience as essential repairs meant altering our regular tours offering.

“There was such a phenomenal response from visitors this Easter that we’re delighted to be able to offer this special May opening and, once again, give guests the chance to explore this stunning property at their leisure.”

Light lunches and cakes will be served in the 18th century stable block and the gift shop offers a wide variety of crafts, food, jewellery, books and more.

Access to the State Rooms and upper floors will not be possible during the May opening. To find out more, contact Boughton House on 01536 515 731 or email info@boughtonhouse.co.uk.
