Summer Garden events at Boughton House

Summer visitors to Northamptonshire’s Boughton Estate can enjoy its famed gardens in sunlight and by starlight, thanks to a bumper events offering.

The sprawling countryside and Grade 1 Designed Landscape surrounding Boughton House, the home of the Duke of Buccleuch, will open in conjunction with the Estate’s annual summer House and Gardens public opening in August.

In addition, the Gardens will also provide the setting to special open-air cinema and theatre performances in June and August.

Charles Lister, property manager at Boughton House, said: “Whether you want take in the sights of our canalised river, Walled Garden and newly reinstated Grand Etang lake, or relax on the lawn with a picnic and enjoy some open-air theatre by day, Boughton House is a must this summer, in this, the Year of the English Garden.

“Back by popular demand, we also have starlight film screenings on the North Lawn, which will allow visitors to enjoy the ambiance of the Estate at night. With an action-packed schedule ahead, summer 2016 is gearing up to be another bumper season at Boughton House.”

Boughton’s beautiful Gardens will open for the Estate’s annual summer House and Gardens opening throughout August. The Gardens will open between 12pm-5pm daily, with last entry at 4pm. As an added bonus, all Gardens ticket holders will gain access to the Estate’s special summer exhibition.

Gardens entry tickets cost £6 for adults, £3 for children and £14 for families (2+2).Tickets can be booked in advance by calling 01536 515 731 or purchased on a first come, first served basis at the kiosk on the day.

In conjunction with Chapterhouse Theatre Company, an open-air theatre performance of Sherlock Holmes and The Hound of the Baskervilles will take place on Friday 17 June. Gates will open at 6pm, with the performance at 7pm.

Gates open at 4.30pm for picnics, and the performance starts at 5.30pm.

The Estate will host open air screenings of cult Bowie classic Labyrinth (Friday 5 August) and 90s favourite Pretty Woman (Saturday 6 August). Gates open at 7.30pm with the films beginning after sunset at approximately 9.25pm.
